ABSTRACT

60 pregnant women in the first trimester, with a history of recurrent spontaneous abortion and had no explanation for their recurrent spontaneous abortion [study group] were compared with 20 healthy clinically euthyroid pregnant women in the first trimester with negative history of abortion, still birth or preterm delivery [control group]. When cut off points of positivity for thyroid autoantibodies were taken as an increase of more than one st and ard deviation [SD] above the mean of the control group, out of 60 women 22 [36%] were positive for either one or both thyroid autoantibodies, but only 4 [20%] out of 20 women of control group. However, this difference did not reach statistical significance [P >0.05]. The results were given

ABSTRACT

Aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Zingber officinale had antimicrobial activity against large number of pathogenic bacteria and fungi. Aqueous extract of Nigella sativa possessed antibacterial activity in higher concentration. In addition, all fractions of both Zingber officinale and Nigella sativa exhibited antimicrobial activities against various microorganisms. Saponin and oil fractions of the test plants increased the antibacterial activity of ampicillin against pyogenic microorganisms, while resin fraction decreased that activity

ABSTRACT

This study was carried out on healthy non-pregnant Zarabi does kept with a vasectomized billy. The goats were left loose in an open pen at the national research centre farm [Abou Rawash] during winter and spring seasons. Prostaglandin F[2] was used for synchronization of the oestrous cycle in all doses. Detection of oestrus was carried out by monitoring doses once daily and was confirmed by hormonal values. Blood samples were collected by jagular vein puncture throughout the different stages of the cycle plasma was separated and kept at 20?C till analysed for estradiol 17 beta and progesterone hormones. The values of estradiol 17 beta in Zaraibi goat showed highly significant changes between the different stages of the different stages of the ostrous cycle, being: 12.4 +/- 2.84. 22.33+8.49 +/- 4.19 and 8.14 +/- 5.13pg/ml during proestrus, oestrus, metestrus and diestruds respectively. Moreover, estradiol-17 beta value was high in January [17.01 +/- 3.89 pg/ml] and low in may [15.3 +/- 5.5 pg/ml]. the progesterone values in Zaraibi goat averaged 0.55 +/- 0.21, 0.53 +/- 0.40, 1.20 +/- 0.57 and 3.20 +/- 1.27 ng/ml during proestrus, estrus. Metesturs and diestrus respectively [p 0.01]

ABSTRACT

This study includes 160 patients suffering from mild or severe pregnancy induced hypertension. Half of patients have received the ordinary lines of treatment of P.I.H., while the other half received this treatment in additional to Solcoseryl injection. It has been found that the patients who have received Solcoseryl therapy had a significant increase in the foetal movements, increased foetal biparietal diameter, and gave births to babies who had a higher birth weight and a higher apgar score [1 min and 5 min] than those who did not receive it

ABSTRACT

Human placental lactogen [HPL] levels in serum were measured by radial immunodiffusion plates and immunoelectrophoresis in twenty normal, nineteen toxaemic and fourteen diabetic pregnant women, followed up during the first trimester [10-12 w.], the second trimester [20-22 w.], the 28th week, the 32nd week, the 36th week and two weeks after delivery. Serum human placental lactogen concentration showed progressive increase with the advance of pregnancy in all groups. It was not detected when measured two weeks after delivery in normal, toxaemic and diabetic pregnant women. Comparing the mean serum concentration in toxaernic pregnant patients with that in the normal group, the toxaemic group had lower mean serum hpl concentration throughout the period of pregnancy. On the other hand, diabetic pregnant women showed higher serum hpl concentration than normal pregnant women throughout the period of pregnancy. There was a positive correlation between infant weight, infant length and serum hpl levels at the 28th, 32nd weeks of gestation. Our results indicate that serial determination of serum hpl may he a valuable complement to other diagnostic aids in the supervisior of pregnancies, complicated by pre-eclampsia or diabetes

ABSTRACT

Gas-liquid chromatography for short-chained organic acid metabolites of the microbial flora and quantitative anaerobic cultures were used to study the cause of nonspecific vaginitis. We analyzed vaginal fluid from normal ten women and from 25 women with nonspecific vaginitis. In normal vaginal fluid, lactate was the predominant acid, and the predominant organisms were lactobacillus and streptococcus species. In nonspecific vaginitis lactate was decreased, whereas succinate, acetate, butyrate and proprionate were increased. The predominant flora included Haemophilus vaginalis and Bacteroids
